Not sure where to post my comment about the proposed dumbing down of the offering – will start here and post this on the writer`s group AND on Team Rio group for starters. Whilst I can understand the motivation of the proposal I believe it is being suggested for the wrong reasons. My involvement stemmed from a basic gut feeling that the idea was good – as soon as became more deeply involved, that depth increased because of the unique offering. Yes, it was a bit like Day of the Triffids but DIFFERENT and its own thing. Also my interest in History, specifically the Tudor period offered me a chance to become closely involved in a good script idea. As a newbie to scriptwriting (I have written and published a long historical fiction NOVEL, but never written or even read a script) my first effort was amateurish. having been on a steep learning curve I just completed a re-write at 2am and THEN saw the “Change-up” email. WRONG – it should be labelled “Change Down”
I have sent the script to David and I hope it will be published – then you can make your own minds up as to whether I am correct in my view that the original idea has more merit than the dumbed down version.
I will follow the discussion with interest, but if the change is made I fear I shall exit gracefully.
